What is Jetsam about?

Jetsam takes its name from cargo deliberately cast overboard to save a ship. On K.S. Valentina’s haunted coast, the discarded remember who chose to sacrifice them.

The second Salvage Claims novel deepens the connected coastal mystery through Boo Hag folklore, storm-dark shorelines, and a romance shaped by the difference between being lost and being deliberately thrown away.

People and creatures

Savannah Cane is a human salvage diver returning to her island home after her aunt’s death. Her nonhuman companions draw on Lowcountry folklore: Verey, the storm-warning Gray Man; Mercer, a boo hag; Kedge, a scaled Lizard Man; and Vigil, the shape-changing plat-eye who keeps the crossing.

World and setting

Cane’s Folly, an invented island on the South Carolina Lowcountry coast. The present-day story begins in 2026, with salt wards, drowned histories, and supernatural claims beneath the marsh and sea.

What’s at stake

Savannah investigates what was deliberately cast away, while family records and the sea’s bargains put her freedom and household at risk.
